چکیده

Aims: This study examined the effects of exposure to mild hyperbaric oxygen on blood flow and resting energy expenditure. Study Design: Clinical study. Methods: Fourteen healthy women were exposed to mild hyperbaric conditions at 1.25 atmospheres absolute with 36.0% oxygen for 50 min. Their heart rate, peripheral oxygen saturation, blood flow, resting energy expenditure, derived-reactive oxygen metabolites, and biological antioxidant potential were monitored, and the values before and after exposure were compared. Results: Heart rate decreased after exposure to mild hyperbaric oxygen. In contrast, peripheral oxygen saturation, blood flow, and resting energy expenditure increased after exposure. There were no changes in the levels of derived-reactive oxygen metabolites or biological antioxidant potential after exposure. Conclusions: Exposure to mild hyperbaric oxygen increases blood flow and metabolism without increasing levels of oxidative stress. Original Research Article Ishihara et al.; JSRR, Article no. Hyperbaric oxygen treatment induces antioxidant gene expression.

Although the underlying molecular causes of aging are not entirely clear, hormetic agents like exercise, heat, and calorie restriction may generate a mild pro-oxidant stress that induces cell protective responses to promote healthy aging. As an individual ages, many cellular and physiological processes decline, including wound healing and reparative angiogenesis. This is particularly critical i...

Reactive oxygen species, oxidative stress, glaucoma and hyperbaric oxygen therapy

This review examines the role of oxidative stress in damage to cells of the trabecular meshwork and associated impaired aqueous drainage as well as damage to retinal ganglion cells and associated visual field losses. Consideration is given to the interaction between vascular and mechanical explanations for pathological changes in glaucoma. For example, elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) forces...

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves inhaling 100% oxygen at greater than one atmosphere absolute (ATA) in a pressurized chamber. The air we breathe at sea level is defined as 1 ATA. Many of the clinical uses of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) have been at pressures above 1.5 ATA. However, recently, some researchers have been using lower pressures of hyperbaric oxygen therapy with good results i...

The effect of mild-pressure hyperbaric therapy (Oasis O2) on fatigue and oxidative stress

Mild-pressure hyperbaric therapy (mHBT) has become increasingly popular among elite athletes and most recently among the general public yet there is very little scientific underpinnings on its therapeutic use. In this study, fifteen healthy volunteers (8 men, 7 women, mean age 29.7 ± 8.1 years) were exposed to 1.3 atmospheres absolute (ATA) for 40 minutes in a mild hyperbaric chamber called “Oa...

Study Of Interaction of Glutathione, Vitamin C and Vitamin E Under Hyperbaric Oxygen

In order to study the interaction of glutathione, vitamin C and vitamin E under hyperoxia (95 % oxygen) and hyperbaric oxygen (2.5 atmospheric pressure), 20 days old male Guinea pigs were fed with basal vitamin C free diet, while receiving a vitamin C supplement of either high concentration (50 mg/day) or low concentration (1 mg/day) for two weeks. Animals were than exposed to hyperoxia and hyp...
